Keith Newton and Tree Tales

Every tree tells a tale. "My passion for woodworking actually begins with the search. I personally harvest most of the wood I use from downed trees, and I'm often amazed at how I manage to find them- or maybe they find me. "My artistic goal is to give expression to the many stories every tree wants to tell. Colors, grain patterns, knots, splits and other "personal" features all tell stirring tales of climatic and environmental history, traumatic lightning strikes, neighborhood "gossip" about nearby trees and structures, animal contacts and more. It's all "written down" if you know how to read their beautifully encoded message. But even if you don't, trees can still communicate their story visually, by touch and heart to heart. That's where I come in."In helping them tell their story, I strive to create artistic pieces unlike any other. I especially enjoy challenging the craftsman-in-me to achieve what the designer-in-me envisions. Like trees, my work reflects the events and circumstances of my own life. I guess you could say we are telling our stories to, and about, each other. I hope you'll want to become part of the story, too."Keith Newton, born in south Arkansas in 1948, has been creating artistry in wood full-time for over 30 years.
